In Roadway Safety Magazine’s Summer 2024 edition, SpanPath was highlighted for its innovative solution to a critical accessibility issue in construction zones. While working for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), our CEO & Founder, Gevin McDaniel, recognized the need for a better alternative to pedestrian detours and designed the SpanPath Modular Elevated Pathway.
The standard approach was to close a sidewalk and reroute pedestrians, but that can put pedestrians too close to traffic or a steep slope. Work zone signage also can be confusing or ignored. Yet at the time he made his observation, new accessibility guidelines such as the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) were still on the horizon.
SpanPath’s Modular Elevated Pathway is made of ADA-compliant aluminum sections that contractors can, for example, be place over newly poured concrete, allowing pathways to remain accessible for flooded walkways, pedestrians, bicyclists, and people using wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
